Anastasiia Khudiakova, a participant of the “Silver Easel” contest, decided with help of her art not only to say that smoking is not fashionable but also to directly involve viewers. A young artist is convinced: “It's not fashionable to smoke, it's fashionable to paint”. This is the very name of her social project presented on 2 September 2018 in Kharkov as a part of the Non Stop Media Festival.

The 9th Non Stop Media Festival brings together creative and extraordinary youth from all over Ukraine. With over hundreds of applicants, the organizers chose 10 laureates with the most interesting projects. Anastasia Khudiakova was among them. Her project “It's not fashionable to smoke, it's fashionable to paint” generated great interest among the audience because everyone could become a part of the creative process.

The girl hung canvases in the smoking area with the instruction suggesting smokers put a cigarette out on a canvas. The artist believes that in this way it is possible to appeal to a wider audience.

“I deliberately chose different locations for this project: a hospital, a fire station, places of rest and art spaces – it was interesting to watch how representatives of different professions respond to such an action,” says Anastasiia. “The idea itself appeared 2 years ago. My father has a small workshop for repair of sewing equipment and local mechanics put their cigarettes out just on the walls. Then I thought it would be interesting to suggest them doing it on a canvas. Dad agreed, and, as a result, I noticed that the workers started talking about art during the break.”

The works of Non Stop Media participants were presented at the exhibition in the Palace of students of the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute. Exposition of Khudiakova's project consists not only of canvases, which are the result of the creative experiment, but also photos as well as phrases-reactions of people.

“I really liked the words of one of the rescuers. He said that the whole life we put out something, cannot we cope with a cigarette?” Nastia recalls. “At the hospital, they did the task creatively: they left not only traces of cigarettes but also prints of the lips and even ...human blood. I did not expect that! One of the clean canvases placed in the shopping mall was stolen. A security officer made an interesting conclusion: “Where they sell –  a place where they steal”.

At the opening of the exhibition, Anastasiia invited viewers to join the creation of an art object. The girl makes a conclusion: “Certainly, it is worthwhile for a contemporary artist to implement such projects, because they are making him closer to the viewers, helping to understand what they are interested in.”

To see unusual works one can until 9 September 2018 in the Palace of students of the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute.
