To select the best among about a thousand submitted works and to identify 50 strongest authors - such a difficult task was put to the members of the Expert Council of the 3rd Open Student Contest in Painting "Silver Easel". The Uzhhorod artist Eduard Prykhodko joined the process of selection and shared his impressions about the participants, their works and the contest itself.

Thus, the artist said that he was following the course of "Silver Easel", so it was possible to talk about qualitative changes and, in fact, the contest’s development. "I pay close attention to the contest from the very beginning of its establishment, and I can note that in the relatively short time of its existence it really became a significant art phenomenon not only in Transcarpathia, but also in the whole Ukraine," the artist says. - It is very pleasant that the contest is growing: its geography changed, young artists from neighbouring countries joined it, as well as European artists and art critics.

This time I joined the contest as a member of the Expert Council. I was probably a fastidious expert, but I felt that such an approach to the selection of contestants increases the professional level of "Silver Easel". I would like to emphasise the significant growth of the professional level of student works that take part in the contest. It can state for sure that "Silver Easel" has already reached the European level."

According to Eduard Prykhodko, notable is not only the fact that participants grow up professionally - they improved as individuals: "Participants improvise, become more confident, and thus their works become more interesting. It's nice that young artists are looking for their own art language."

There is no need to argue about the importance of "Silver Easel" - everybody says so. Eduard Prykhodko believes that, thanks to the communication of young artists with the well-known artists, gallery owners, curators and art critics, they have a unique opportunity to study, and learn from the experience of each other, as new ideas are born in communication. "In general, “Silver Easel” allows students to develop, move forward," a member of the Expert Council says. - Moreover, I will be frank, the art event is interesting for the older generation of the artists, because it encourages them to healthy competition. A separate issue is a very high level of the contest organization, mass media coverage of the art event."

"Silver Easel" is an extraordinary and significant phenomenon in contemporary art of Ukraine, Eduard Prykhodko summarizes.
