Oleksandr and Tamara Babak – an extremely talented, sincere and open artistic couple: these two creative figures harmoniously complement each other, they are unique in their worldview and relationships.

They work together in the framework of the art residency "Velykyi Pereviz" in Poltava region. And the two of them also joined the "Silver Easel": for the third time Oleksandr takes part in the evaluation of the participants' works as a Jury member and Tamara, on behalf of the art residency, acts as a partner of the art event. Together with the Art & Culture Foundation Brovdi Art, they organized an exhibition of the contest participants in Uzhhorod.

During the contest, we asked the artists about the 3rd "Silver Easel".

ABOUT THE "SILVER EASEL"

The "Silver Easel" contest is a unique event for Ukraine because all our artistic higher schools are separated, detached from each other, and here we have such a unifying event and a place where young artists can get to know each other and work together! And, most importantly, it is here that you can clearly see what are the differences in the art education of various higher educational institutions.

"There are a lot of different contests, which a person took part in, received a prize and ... forgot about it. And this contest is important for young artists as a kind of continuation that allows them to creatively develop, expand their outlook, gain knowledge and gain valuable experience from the well-known artists. "Silver Easel" is a wonderful contest that is developing dynamically, has good partners and is organized at the highest level."

ABOUT THE PARTICIPANTS OF THE 3rd "SILVER EASEL"

Oleksandr:

I’ve been a Jury member for the third time and I want to note a certain tendency. During the 2nd "Silver Easel" most of the artists had a high level of training, I was expecting during the third contest for the even better result. And I shall note that compared to the previous contests, now the young artists feel more freewheeling. For example, when performing the "Improvisation" task there are no such things as beforehand layouts, but it was performed with all the heart, impulse, emotions. And finally, I would say that the selection of works in the previous contests was faster and easier. This time I was a little confused by a large number of high-quality works ...

Tamara:

In general, it is worth noting the hard work of the young artists, the ability to dream and their engagement, which is extremely important for the artists with great potential. By and large, they are wonderful people and I sincerely hope that all will have the wonderful future!

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION OF THE CONTEST PRIZE-WINNERS FROM THE "VELYKYI PEREVIZ"

Oleksandr:

The participants of the 2nd "Silver Easel" Anastasiia Mitikova and Petro Hrytsiuk, who became prize-winners of the “Velykyi Pereviz” art residency, presented their works during the third contest. This exhibition was the result of fruitful work at the residency in summer 2017. And it perfectly demonstrates the completed circle: contest – award – plein air – exhibition. It is important!

I am extremely grateful to the contest organizers that they responded promptly and supported the wonderful idea of the exhibition of the “Silver Easel” participants, who worked in the art residency, Poltava region.

The decision to organize the exposition came during the creative process at the residency. We conceived it to further encourage the young artists. And it really inspired the young artists, prompting them to create even after leaving the residency.
