Today ten metres of Teatralna Square in Uzhhorod is occupied by ... modern art: on 12 October 2017, in the heart of the city it was held a unique open-air art show under the title "10 metres of your opportunities". Its author is a young artist from Lviv Maksym Skvortsov. It took almost an hour for him to paint a picture on a ten-meter-long drawing paper. A few cans of acrylic paint and markers, a flight of fantasy and inspiration – and everything is ready. A unique event was held within the framework of the Open Student Contest in Painting "Silver Easel", which is held in the regional centre of Transcarpathia.

Maksym Skvortsov was born in Poltava in 1995. He graduated from Lviv National Academy of Arts (Department of Monumental Painting). In April 2017, he passed the pre-selection and became a participant of the 2nd All-Ukrainian Student Contest in Painting "Silver Easel", which was held in Uzhhorod. It was then that a talented young boy showed himself by the extraordinary approach to the work and thus was remembered by numerous people. "Silver Easel" became a definite start for me," Maksym said during a brief pause in the project. The organizers believed in me and I realized that my work was needed for people. We were treated very well during "Silver Easel". I liked it and wanted that to continue. Of course, such recognition still needs to be earned. That’s why I decided to act."

This August, Maksym implemented his first art project – it was in Lviv. Now it is a turn of Uzhhorod. "The very idea of my art show is to tell people that there are young artists in Ukraine who are engaged in contemporary art," the artist said. I also want to show my young colleagues that we need to go out our houses, create and tell all people that we have contemporary art. Once in Lviv, I saw an artist who was painting with a can of spray on the street. I thought: why does nobody know about him? Apparently, because he painted not for the idea, but for sale. I decided that it was necessary to do this for the idea itself and attract ordinary citizens to this."

According to Maksym, the project implementation was especially pleasant in Uzhhorod: the sunny weather, dozens of young artists, including friends, wonderful creative atmosphere – everything contributed to creating a picture. People were passing by and interested in what was going on, but nobody disturbed me. Transcarpathian artists, art historians, honoured guests of the current "Silver Easel" also came to see, the founders of the contest were watching the work as well. “Skvortsov’s project is a very good and qualitative initiative," Robert Brovdi, founder of the Art & Culture Foundation Brovdi Art and the Student Contest in Painting “Silver Easel” said. Maksym – an individuality, he depicts his thoughts and vision of the surrounding on the canvas. I wish it would be more such individualities, and people will be close to art, to art projects. Our youth is modern, they can adapt to the different conditions, and this is very good. The foundation plans a lot of similar events.”

The young designer-student of the Lviv Academy of Arts Oleh Havryliv, who decided to design a collection of clothes with prints of Skvortsov's works, helped to realize the art show to Maksym. The artist put the first samples of the future collection on today when he realized his art project.

Incidentally, the works of M. Skvortsov compelled other talented boys and girls to think about their own projects as well. In particular, the young artist Kateryna Shelevytska from Mukachevo, who also was a participant of "Silver Easel", admitted that public work is a very necessary thing for the artist. "When you work at a studio, at the computer, then nobody sees the whole process," she said. – And, it is actually quite interesting. This should be demonstrated to people - then, perhaps, they will become closer to contemporary art."

Maksym Skvortsov plans to hold his art shows in other cities of Ukraine. Now he is grateful to "Silver Easel", which became the launching platform for the artist and helped him to complete the formation of his own world outlook, pull himself together and start his own creative path.
