The leading art educational institutions of Ukraine support the Open Student Contest in Painting “Silver Easel”, which will take place on October 9-14 2017 in Uzhhorod. Such attention once again testifies the importance of the art event as a powerful incentive for the development of modern Ukrainian art.

Traditionally, the full support in the contest organization is provided by the Transcarpathian Academy of Arts.

Transcarpathian Academy of Arts is the first artistic educational establishment in the westernmost region of Ukraine, which was founded in March 1946 under the name Uzhhorod State Art and Industrial School, headed by Adalbert Erdeli. It was at this institution that the outstanding artists of the region - Yosyp Bokshai, Fedirr Manailo, Andrii Kotska, Adalbert Boretskyi, Ernest Kontratovych, Ivan Harapko, Vasyl Svyda, Wilhelm Berets, Shandor Petki, Viktor Demydiuk and many others taught. Among the graduates of the institution are such famous artists as Volodymyr Mykyta, Yurii Hertz, Ivan Shutiev, Pavlo Bedzir, Edita and Mykola Medvetskyi, Ivan Ilko, Ferents Seman, Anton Shepa, Yelyzaveta Kremnytska and many other artists who glorified their region and country far beyond. During the years of its existence, the institution was reorganized and renamed several times, and only in April 2016 it finally started its new chapter in the history as once desired by Adalbert Erdeli Transcarpathian Academy of Arts.

This year official partner of the contest is also one of the leading art institutions of Ukraine - the Modern Art Research Institute under the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine. In fact, it is the only research institution in Ukraine that conducts fundamental research in the field of all types of contemporary art. It was thanks to the activity of this institution that the practical and research studios aimed at the development of contemporary art and architecture, the introduction of new art technologies and practices, the development of national culture, the preparation and publication of monographs and scientific works, the training of scientific staff of higher qualification in the speciality theory and history of culture became possible. The Institute's activity includes holding of the Ukrainian and international art exhibitions, plein airs, master classes, seminars, conferences on fundamental research in the field of contemporary art, aesthetics, cultural studies and architecture studies.
